The Scale Of Gem Formation

What I want to convey to readers is that there are so many things that no one has ever pointed out. An ideal example is the scale of gem formation. Gems that refract light, such as diamonds and rubies, are found only up to a very limited size.

But why is this so? Why can't there be brilliant diamonds as big as a car? The answer is actually simple, but I couldn't find it anywhere.

Refraction or transparency comes from the atoms being lined up in rows, so that light can pass between the atoms. We know that these gems are formed by geological processes, and that gives us our answer.

The scale of natural gems that refract light must be closer in scale to atoms than to the earth. The upper limit of these gems is halfway between the scale of atoms and the scale of the earth.

Remember that all around you, every day, are relatively simple things that have never been pointed out.
