Possibly the most controversial piece of urban renewal anywhere is Buffalo's Kensington Expressway, that was built across the residential East Side of Buffalo about sixty years ago, and has been very controversial ever since. The possibility of modifying it has recently been in the news again.
The Kensington Expressway, connecting the downtown to outer parts of the city, is very similar in concept to Toronto's Spadina Expressway, which was cancelled due to public opposition. The northernmost part of the Spadina Expressway, which was completed, is now called Allen Road.
