Merry Christmas to my hometown of Niagara Falls NY.
Should we think again about redevelopment of the old buildings on North Main Street? Has anyone looked at them on Google Earth, because the roofs are collapsing in a number of places?
In the very center of this image you can see that the roof has a hole in it, and is collapsing to the right of the hole.
In the upper right of this roof it is beginning to collapse.
The roof covering at the back of this building is already gone.
Finally, the roof of the building on the right has collapsed and the roof of the building on the left is beginning to collapse, on the left side.
It would cost an astronomical amount of money to bring these buildings up to standard, far more than the remodeled buildings would be worth. Let's focus instead on John's Hotel Niagara.
This building is part of the cityscape and we should not let it fall into ruin. The structure is sound and it was made as accommodations. It is very unlikely to succeed as a hotel again so let's make this into student or low-cost housing instead. The original Niagara County Community College was close by.
