Placid Britain

The place where I was born is a very calm place. It is the northern part of what is known as the Forest of Dean.

I have spent most of my life in North America, but this is where I originally came from. I really like cities but this is a partly-forested and semi-rural area of small towns, farms and, villages. In many of the following scenes, the forest can be seen in the background.

The following scenes are in the town of Cinderford. The open field is where the Cinderford Carnival used to be held. The first two images are from Google Street View.

There are multiple scenes following. To see the scenes, after the first one, you must first click the up arrow, ^, before you can move on to the next scene by clicking the right or forward arrow, >. After clicking the up arrow, you can then hide the previews of successive scenes, if you wish.

Cinderford is built on a slope, which is a glacial impact crater. Here are some scenes near the top of the slope, looking eastward across the Severn Vale. The first three images are from Google Street View.

This is the center of another town, called Coleford. The clock tower in the center of Coleford was once part of a church that was demolished and rebuilt not far away because there wasn't enough room for all the people who wanted to attend. The first two images are from Google Street View.

This is the town of Mitcheldean. For readers in the Rochester, NY area, the complex of buildings is where the European Headquarters of Xerox used to be located, and there were frequent visits between the two places.
