England's New City

Britain periodically starts new towns instead of allowing cities to sprawl. There were several waves of new towns in the postwar era. When I was a child, in 1967, I remember hearing that a new town was being created in England. Today it is known as Milton Keynes and is the best-known of the new towns. It would be considered as a city by it's population but is technically a town because it doesn't have a cathedral. Let's have a look at how Milton Keynes is doing today.

The first image, from Google Earth, shows how the central part of Milton Keynes is arranged as a rectangular grid. The residential areas are outside that. The rest of the images are from Google Street View.
