Remember that the French Revolution of 1789 was the beginning of modern politics and the world is continuously reenacting it. It is impossible to understand modern politics without understanding this.
The French Revolution changed the world by setting the precedent for replacing monarchy with a republic, or sometimes a dictator. America encompasses, roughly equally, both sides of the French Revolution. The Republicans represent before the revolution and the Democrats afterward, and we keep alternating between the two sides.
Here is a link to the book-length compound posting "America And The Modern World Explained By Way Of Paris". It is impossible to understand modern politics without this.

The French Revolution was about replacing monarchy but we have not done away with kings at all. We usually just don't call them kings anymore. Monarchy is the way that things have been done for thousands of years and that isn't going to change overnight, even with the French Revolution. Donald Trump is really a king and the Republicans are a continuation of France before the Revolution.
Donald Trump's setback in the recent Midterm Elections was to be expected. Two-term presidents almost always suffer such a setback in the Midterms of their second term. This has not affected his kingship at all. Here is a link to "Donald I".

Also remember that Donald Trump is on a special mission that is far above politics, as we saw in "Inducing The Apocalypse".
A complete explanation of which leaders are really kings and how this affects nations, and the relations between nations, is in "The Theory Of Kings".
