Political Developments In Britain

It remains to be seen what is in Boris Johnson's political future. Just a reminder to U.S. readers that there is no such thing as impeachment in a parliamentary democracy. In a presidential democracy one is voting more for the person, while in a parliamentary democracy one is voting more for the party.

It is much easier to remove the prime minister in a parliamentary system, all it takes is a vote of no confidence. A prime minister can be removed by his own party. It doesn't require a general election or any legal process. The prime minister is simply replaced by someone else and the party continues to govern.

That is what happened to Margaret Thatcher. Her own party turned against her. It has also happened to Brian Mulroney, in Canada, and to prime ministers in Australia.

You can review how the parliamentary system differs from the presidential system in the visit, "London" April 2021. The explanation is in the first section, "PARLIAMENT BUILDINGS".

Please don't stereotype. Drinking alcohol and partying is sometimes portrayed as Britain's national religion. But I am a native Brit and I haven't had an alcoholic drink in well over 30 years. I just like to have a cup of tea and some wholesome food and some meaningful conversation.

Americans are similarly portrayed as being addicted to television. As a U.S. citizen I don't even own a television. If I spent my time watching television you certainly wouldn't be reading this.
