England's Castle Combe

There is a movement of wealthy Americans buying homes in England's Cotswolds region. A place that often gets pictured is a village called Castle Combe. No buildings have been built in the older part of the village since about 1600.

The village is so-called because there was once a castle there. There used to be more castles than there is now because some, particularly those in towns or cities, were dismantled as a source of building stone when they were no longer necessary as fortifications. In Hereford is the Castle Green, which is a park where a castle used to be.
