Forty Years Since Chernobyl

Here is a look at the abandoned area around Chernobyl, north of Kyiv, forty years after the reactor meltdown. All images are from Google Street View.

This is the monument to the firefighters who rushed in immediately after the meltdown, most of whom ultimately died because of exposure to the radiation.

These were Soviet era classrooms.

Boats and ships are rusted and sank and a dock has collapsed.

A general look at the abandoned area.
